Garfield County authorities today named the fisherman who has been lost in the Colorado River for two weeks.

Bill Browne, 52, from the Houston area, was thrown into the water on Oct. 14 when the fishing boat he and two companions were in struck a bridge piling near the Rifle city boat launch.

His friends reached the river bank safely, but Browne and the boat disappeared under the water. The boat was located and pulled out last weekend.

Divers, dogs and other search efforts in the area have not been successful.

“All parties involved in the search would like to remind Bill’s family and friends that our thoughts and prayers are with them,” the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department said in a media release this afternoon.
