The Colorado State volleyball team swept its sixth straight opponent, polishing off UNLV (11-13, 3-7 Mountain West) on Saturday 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-17) in just 67 minutes in Fort Collins.
The Rams (17-4, 10-1), who re-entered the coaches poll this week at No. 25, were led by Katelyn Steffan’s 10 kills on a nifty .667 hitting percentage and eight kills each by Brieon Paige and Megan Plourde.
• The University of Denver volleyball team lost its second straight on the road, falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-22) to Middle Tennessee (16-9, 12-1 Sun Belt).
Faimie Kingsley led the Pioneers (10-14, 7-6) with six kills and six blocks.
• A record crowd of 866 turned out to see a matchup of two top-10 Division II volleyball teams at Auraria Events Center, but the home team, No. 10 Metro State, was swept by No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney (26-1, 15-1 RMAC) 25-16, 25-22, 25-13. Bri Morley had 14 kills for the Roadrunners (20-5, 12-4). Ngoc Phan added 18 digs.
• Lauren Flanagan had 13 kills, and Sage Martinson flirted with a triple-double with 13 assists, nine digs and seven kills as Regis (20-7, 11-5 RMAC), ranked No. 25 in D-II, swept visiting Chadron State (5-23, 0-16) 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-18).
USA rugby team advances to quarterfinals.
The USA men’s sevens rugby team went 1-1-1 on the first day of play at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, to advance out of Group B to the quarterfinals. Denver Barbarians player Mark Bokhoven had a goal for the Eagles in the match against Canada. The U.S. plays Guyana today.
