The man who was shot and killed by authorities in Greeley on Friday was identified today.

Jason Paul Collins, 30 of Johnstown, was killed at the Fairfield Inn Motel at 2401 W. 29th St., in south Greeley, according to a news release from the Greeley Police Department.

At 4 p.m. on Friday, police and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations planned a meeting with Collins, who was a suspect in a child pornography investigation.

Officers shot Collins after he reached for a weapon while he was being taken into custody. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that the weapon Collins was reaching for was a BB or a pellet gun that looked like a handgun.

Earlier that afternoon, Collins told the undercover agent that the gun was real. He also told the agent that he would not go back to prison.

Two Greeley police officers fired their weapons at Collins.
