KEY WEST, Fla. — A small jet carrying Rick Hendrick,the owner of NASCAR’s top team, and his wife, Linda, lost its brakes and crash landed at a Key West, Fla., airport Monday night, but no one was seriously injured, officials said.

The Hendricks, a pilot and co-pilot were taken to Lower Keys Medical Centers. Two suffered minor injuries, though it was not clear who. Two others onboard were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

In 2004, a plane Hendrick owned crashed in Martinsville, Va., killing all 10 onboard. It included Hendrick’s son, Ricky, his brother and twin nieces.

Stanford’s Ertz out with leg injury

STANFORD, Calif. — Tight end Zach Ertz will most likely be sidelined for at least two weeks for No. 4 Stanford (8-0, 6-0 Pac-12) with a lower right leg injury, leaving one of the team’s most productive units short-handed.

Ertz is expected to miss Saturday’s game at Oregon State and the Nov. 12 matchup against sixth-ranked Oregon that could determine the Pac-12 North champion.

And Chris Owusu‘s status is unclear after the leading wide receiver suffered what appeared to be another concussion after a hit by USC safety T.J. McDonald. The Pac-12 suspended McDonald for the first half of Friday’s game against Colorado.

• USC coach Lane Kiffin has been fined $10,000 by the Pac-12 for criticizing the officiating in the Trojans’ triple-overtime loss to Stanford last weekend.

• Tennessee safety Brent Brewer will miss the rest of the season with torn cartilage in his left knee.

• Missouri kicker Grant Ressel is likely to miss his second straight game with a hip flexor injury.

• West Virginia University filed a lawsuit seeking an immediate divorce from the Big East to become a member of the Big 12 before the 2012 football season.

• Goaltender Martin Brodeur has been taken off injured reserve by the New Jersey Devils after being sidelined with a bruised right shoulder.

• Players union president Derek Fisher denied a rift in union leadership in a letter to NBA players, telling them there have been “no side agreements, no side negotiations or anything close” with league officials.

• The NBA fined Miami Heat owner Micky Arison three days after he made references to the locked-out league’s ongoing collective bargaining process on his Twitter account. The amount was not revealed.

• Italian news agency ANSA reported that AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano suffered a mini-stroke on his return from Rome this weekend.

Roger Federer made a winning return from a six-week break, beating Potito Starace of Italy 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the first round of the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
