Halloween’s hauntingly perfect weatherDenver’s high hit 70 degrees — will give way to the frightful snow and cold rolling in today, the National Weather Service said.
A winter storm watch is in effect for the north-central mountains and all of northeast Colorado from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, as “another potent storm” takes aim at the region, forecasters said.
The storm could drop 4 to 8 inches on the Front Range and more than a foot in the high country, one week after a nearly identical snowstorm snapped limbs and left about 200,000 homes and businesses without power.
Rain this afternoon is expected to turn to snow in the evening.
In the metro region, snow could fall at a rate of 1 inch an hour at times and include wind chills down to 10 degrees, forecasters warned. The storm could pack wind gusts up to 40 mph and sustained north winds of 25 mph, forecasters said.
On Wednesday, snow is likely but should diminish in the city before noon. Skies will be mostly cloudy, and the high temperature will be about 34 degrees.
Sunny skies and highs near 50 are expected Thursday and Friday, before another chance of light or moderate snow arrives Friday night and Saturday morning.
