FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A measure to ban medical marijuana businesses in Fort Collins was leading in preliminary election results Tuesday.
The election could mean the city’s 20 medical marijuana dispensaries will face closure.
Votes for a ban led 53 percent-47 percent when Larimer County vote counters called it an early night because of the snowstorm.
Colorado lawmakers last year allowed cities and counties to decide whether to allow commercial marijuana sites such as dispensaries and growing facilities. Medical marijuana patients would still be permitted to grow plants in their homes.
Another Colorado town, Palisade, rejected a marijuana dispensary ban Tuesday, saving that town’s lone pot shop.
