Tonight’s expected cold and snow has prompted Denver authorities to make emergency plans for the homeless.
Denver police and the Denver Street Outreach case managers are instructing people who live on the streets to seek shelter tonight, as the wind-chill is expected to plunge to 10 degrees under a blanket of wet early-season snow.
Mile High United Way’s 2-1-1 phone line will provide information about bed availability to help the homeless weather the night.
Motel vouchers, for those who can’t find shelter anywhere, will be handed out at Denver Police Headquarters at 1331 Cherokee St. at 8 p.m.
Denver’s Road Home Emergency Shelter Network said this afternoon it would make enough beds available — somewhere.
