With eight first-place votes, the Metro State men’s basketball team has been chosen first in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.
Colorado Mines and Adams State also received first-place votes and finished second and third, respectively, in the poll.
Metro State’s Reggie Evans was selected as the conference’s preseason player of the year and preseason defensive player of the year.
The Metro State men’s team was ranked 10th in the NABC/Division II men’s preseason coaches poll, while Colorado Mines was ranked 18th.
• The Fort Lewis women’s basketball team received nine first-place votes, topping Metro State for the top spot in the RMAC preseason poll.
Colorado Christian finished third, ahead of Colorado Mesa in fourth and CSU-Pueblo in fifth.
Fort Lewis’ Dana Schreibvogel was named preseason player of the year, while Christina Whitelaw of Colorado Christian was preseason defensive player of the year.
The Fort Lewis women were chosen sixth in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 women’s poll, one spot ahead of the women’s team from Metro State.
Metro State men’s soccer reaches RMAC semis.
Scott Grode tied the school record with a goal in his fifth consecutive game, leading the Metro State men’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Tuesday in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
Grode scored 15:51 into the game, putting the Road- runners on top. Brenden Hughes increased the lead to 2-0 just 10 minutes later.
Metro State will face Regis, which had a bye for the first round, on Friday at 12:30 p.m. in Durango in the semifinals.
• Colorado Mines’ Baski Baker scored the game-winner 1:38 into overtime to lift the Orediggers to a 2-1 win over the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and into the semifinals of the tournament.
Mines took a 1-0 lead when Tesho Akindele found Alex Gunberg in the box in the 31st minute, and the Mountain Lions tied the game in the 82nd minute with a goal from Mash Shaswar.
The Orediggers will face Fort Lewis on Friday in Durango.
