Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney proposes “deep” cuts in federal subsidies to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowment for the Arts as part of a debt-reduction plan. Romney also calls for an end to aid for Amtrak and the elimination of family- planning programs “benefiting abortion groups like Planned Parenthood.”
Romney detailed his plan in an opinion article for USA Today. He also gave a speech on it Thursday in Exeter, N.H.
In the article, he sets a goal of reducing federal spending as a share of GDP “from last year’s staggering 24.3 percent to 20 percent or below.”
