ASPEN, Colo.—The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is back on line after construction on a runway extension was finished in time for ski season.

Flights to the airport have been limited at times since construction began in April to extend the runway to 8,000 feet.

The Aspen Times reports ( ) electricians worked under bright lights in driving snow to hook up the last of the taxiway lights to have it open by Wednesday.

Extending the runway will allow summer flights to Aspen to carry full passenger loads. That’s expected to make another 12,000 seats available to potential visitors
