Getting your player ready...

BOULDER — The Colorado men’s basketball program might get another national top-150 player, and this one already is on campus.

CU coach Tad Boyle confirmed Friday that freshman forward Damiene Cain, who quit the team Sept. 11 to concentrate on academics, told the staff that he missed basketball and is back working with Buffaloes coaches on individual drills.

Boyle was noncommittal when asked if it is likely that Cain will at some point participate in full practices and rejoin the program in a full-fledged capacity.

“We’re going to do our due diligence. . . . It’s day to day,” Boyle said. “We’re going to get him back in the swing of things and see how he responds.”

Cain, 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds, averaged 14.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.1 blocks as a senior last season at Harvard Westlake High School in North Hollywood, Calif. ranked Cain as the nation’s No. 134 overall recruit.

Boyle, meanwhile, is trying to put the finishing touches on his recruiting class for the current cycle. Among four players who have orally committed are two national top-150 prospects: 6-9 Josh Scott (No. 65) of Lewis-Palmer High School and 6-6 forward Xavier Johnson (No. 83) of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. Also, the Buffs are battling California for 6-4 Tyrone Wallace (No. 78) of Bakersfield (Calif.) High School.

High school seniors can sign with colleges during an eight-day early signing period that begins Wednesday.
