Northbound Interstate 25 was closed for nearly two hours this afternoon because of a serious car accident near 104th Avenue.

When Northglenn Police responded at about 4 p.m., they found a Jeep Cherokee that had rolled off the ramp to 104th Avenue.

Police investigators determined that when the Jeep Cherokee was on the ramp, it was struck from behind by a Honda Ridgeline, prompting it to roll several times before coming to a rest off of the ramp.

Three passengers in the Jeep were transported to the hospital, one by helicopter.

The Honda Ridgeline continued up the ramp after hitting the Jeep, and then travelled down the embankment onto I-25, crossing all three lanes of traffic, stricking the center median, and then crossing back across all three lanes before coming to a rest on the right shoulder of the highway, just north of 104th Avenue.

The driver of the Honda Ridgeline was transported to the hospital, and was the only person in that vehicle.

According to the release from the Northglenn Police Department, the driver of the Honda Ridgeline has cooperated with the investigation.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

The investigation remains open. Witnesses are asked to contact the lead investigator, Officer DiGiovanni, at 303-450-8341.
