OKLAHOMA CITY — Authorities say a 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit central Oklahoma, but they had no immediate reports of any injuries or major damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported from Golden that it detected the quake at 10:53 p.m. local time Saturday, centered about 44 miles east- northeast of Oklahoma City. According to the USGS website, the quake was the strongest ever recorded in the state.
It came on a day that a series of quakes rattled the state. A 4.7-magnitude quake that struck at 2:12 a.m. knocked pictures off walls and woke people and pets as it shook an area that stretched into Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Texas.
