Brian Carroll, a gay veteran who was challenging Rep. Andy Kerr of Lakewood in a Democratic primary, dropped out of the race for House District 28.

Carroll, the first gay soldier to run for office since the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, quit the race as Colorado Democratic Party chairman Rick Palacio simultaneously announced he was being appointed as interim chairman of the newly created Colorado Democratic Veterans and Military Council.
