The University of Denver has honored the late Ron Moore and his family’s gift of the Highlands Ranch Golf Club in a celebration at the semi-private course.
The gift, presented to DU’s Division of Athletics and Recreation, is the second-largest in the history of the school’s athletic program, worth more than $5 million. The gift will be matched with funds from the Pioneers ASCEND program to create new tuition scholarships for women’s and men’s golf student-athletes.
The club has served as the official home for the DU men’s and women’s golf teams since August.
Moore, a University of Denver golfer and alumnus, earned a DU scholarship in 1951. He said he believed his time spent at DU was a turning point in his life.
Moore, an accomplished golfer at every level who was inducted into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame in 1987, was the chairman and owner of the third-largest bank in Denver, Guaranty Bank & Trust. He was a long-term member on the Pioneers Board of Trustees and served as the chairman of the board’s investment committee.
