A Douglas County grandmother was issued a summons on suspicion of child abuse after her grandchildren, both under the age of five, were found walking alone outside this morning.

The incident happened at about 8:50 a.m. in the area of the 3200 block of East County Line Road, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies took custody of the pair and “searched the area to locate an adult responsible for the welfare of the children.”

Deputies found the children’s home and with Douglas County Human Services investigated the circumstances around the children’s wandering.

Yolanda Borders, 42, the grandmother, was cited and released. The children and a 16-year-old were taken into the care of human services. The case is ongoing.
