DENVER—A Denver judge says Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler may have overstepped his authority when he raised campaign limits for issue committees.
Denver District Court Judge Bruce Jones said Tuesday the changes would require an amendment to the state Constitution.
According to the Denver Post ( ), two government-watchdog groups filed suit, arguing that Gessler had no right to raise the contribution and spending limits from $200 to $5,000.
Attorneys for Gessler say the changes are necessary to bring state campaign-finance laws in line with a recent federal appeals-court decision.
