Allison Schmitt won the women’s 200 freestyle at the Minneapolis Grand Prix on Friday night, outdistancing Missy Franklin of Centennial by about 1 1/2 seconds. The 16-year-old Franklin won the overall Grand Prix series title last season and is seeking her first Olympic berth.
Regis women defeat Colorado Mesa.
CC Reinhart and Taylor White scored in the first 13 minutes as the Regis women’s soccer team, ranked No. 16, defeated Colorado Mesa (10-8-4) 3-0 in a NCAA Division II first-round tournament game in Durango.
Regis (15-5-0) got on the scoreboard at the 11:08 mark when Reinhart tapped in a cross from Marissa Davis. Just 1:35 later, White had a ball deflect off her hip from close range after a Heidi Chandler cross following a corner kick.
• Becca Medina tied the game for Metro State in the 48th minute, but 21st-ranked Minnesota State scored in the 62nd minute, and the Roadrunners (12-7-1) gave up an own goal in a 3-1 loss in Golden.

Faimie Kingsley had 16 kills and 10 blocks to lead the University of Denver volleyball team (13-15, 10-6 Sun Belt) to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-9, 21-25, 25-10) win over North Texas (16-16, 7-9) on senior night at Hamilton Gymnasium.
• Colorado finished off a winless Pac-12 season with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19) loss to host Arizona State. Kerra Schroeder led the Buffs (5-21, 0-18 Pac-12) with 13 kills.
• Metro State will play Nebraska-Kearney, ranked No. 6 in Division II, tonight for the championship of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners defeated Western New Mexico 3-1 (25-13, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23) in Friday’s first semifinal. The Lopers, who are hosting the tournament, swept Adams State.
