Wayne DeBlock, scoutmaster, is exactly the kind of customer who’s not so easy to please: transferred out to Denver from a Connecticut suburb … lots of previous building experience … with teenaged kids who are giving up friends to make the move, and a garage full of camping gear that needs to fit. But DeBlock, who made the 1,860-mile move in August and who’s now been appointed assistant scoutmaster for Parker’s Troop 469, is a happy camper now, thanks to Village Homes.
DeBlock picked Village’s master planned Idyllwilde during a quick trip last spring, for its top-rated Legend High School and a rich mix of amenities including a scenic rec center set against view-swept open space. By the time he met construction superintendent Jesse Holschuh, DeBlock knew he’d not only be needing bigger bedrooms to incentivize the kids, but a separate suite for wife Karen’s mom, moving out from Virginia. Holschuh, who’s already built 25 homes this year, went to work modifying Village’s ‘Saratoga’ plan into a 4,600-foot 6-bedroom home with 6-1/2 baths, keeping the third garage bay for camping gear.
“Everything was ‘We can do that,'” recalls DeBlock from those meetings – including an early completion date that would let the kids start school in time. “What really sold me was Village’s staff,” he adds, noting that Holschuh’s crew installed a bunch of hardware he bought at Home Depot at the last minute to customize the mother-in-law suite. “Jesse never delivers a home with the corners cut,” notes Village’s Ete Rondeau, who with Nance Meyer will show you furnished models (from the low $200s), plus a few homes that can deliver soon.
One of those is a 5-bedroom ‘Washington,’ 4 baths, 3-car garage, with hickory floors in great room, kitchen, dining and entry area; slab granite tops, maple cabs and stainless appliances, coffered ceilings in the master, and full yard landscaping. It’s only $339,900 – including its Energy Star features. (DeBlock’s home got a 64 HERS score, suggesting that his heating bills this winter will be a small fraction of what he paid to heat his Connecticut home, half the size!).
“From 1-to-10, Jesse is a 10,” says DeBlock, adding that his kids made friends fast in Parker schools, and that Karen is walking the trails with Idyllwilde’s social committee. “Even if you’re coming out of a condo, you should be seeing whether you could be in this quality of neighborhood,” says Rondeau, noting that Village has incentives that make its ranch and other homes more affordable. Take Parker Road south to Hess, turn east 1.4 mi. to Canterberry, left to Idyllwilde Dr. and follow the signs to Village.
