Morgan Shell had a career-high 21 points, and Kaetlyn Murdoch added 21 points and eight rebounds for the University of Denver women’s team in a 71-55 season-opening victory over Loyola Marymount at Magness Arena on Friday night.
Maiya Michel had 10 points and eight rebounds for Denver, and Emiko Smith contributed nine assists and five steals.

LARAMIE — The Cowgirls shot only 21 percent in the first half and 33 percent for the game in losing their opener. Kaitlyn Mileto led Wyoming with 13 points. Despite the poor shooting in the first half, the Cowgirls led 18-16 at halftime as they limited the Aggies (1-0) to 22 percent shooting.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Alicia Leipprandt scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Falcons (1-0) to their first road win in 43 games.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The Rams committed too many fouls and had trouble with the Panthers’ defense as Northern Iowa (1-0) pulled away late at the free-throw line. Sam Martin had 13 points for the Rams (0-1), who led 29-25 at halftime.

Jonathan Morse led four Roadrunners in double figures with 20 points as Metro State (1-0) appeared to be in midseason form at Auraria Event Center, committing only seven turnovers while forcing 18 from Bemidji.
Air Force 87, Army 71
AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Michael Lyons had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Air Force over Army in the first round of the inaugural All-Military Classic. The Falcons trailed 59-58 with 9:22 remaining but used a 17-3 run to blow the game open. Air Force scored 55 second- half points.
