Lizardo “Alan” Monje was found guilty Monday of theft and conspiracy for a staged robbery at the Academy Bank in the north Longmont Walmart Supercenter, where he was a manager.

Prosecutors said Monje plotted with Frank David Gutierrez to stage the Feb. 18 robbery. Police and FBI agents began to suspect an inside job because the robber got away with $310,000 in the rare vault-based robbery and because the robber appeared to have an unusual amount of knowledge about the bank and bank security.

Monje’s co-worker called police for help after she discovered him bound with duct tape inside the vault.

fter his interview at the Longmont Police Department, officers followed Monje to his Greeley home where they watched him meet with Gutierrez, and followed the men in Monje’s car as they stopped at an apartment complex and threw away duct tape, according to reports.
