A few folks are ice fishing small waters over 10,000 feet. Most North Park waters have a thin ice cap. South Park waters are mostly ice free, the exceptions being Tarryall and Antero, which are iced over. Use extreme caution right now as few waters have ice over 4 inches. Most Front Range waters are fishing well for trout. A few of the best are Boyd, Pinewood, Lon Hagler and Aurora. While baits are producing, spinners and small tube jigs are great options. Rivers and streams continue to offer good fishing, especially the deeper runs. Nymphs or marabou jigs are great choices.

FISHING REGULATIONS: Archery gets OK
November is the month when the PWC adopts changes to the fishing laws. Among them, the use of approved archery equipment has been authorized for the take of kokanee salmon at designated locations during the established snagging periods beginning in 2012. Red-ear sunfish will now be included in the daily bag limit of 20 panfish, and the daily bag limit for lake trout at Williams Fork Reservoir will increase to eight fish, one more than 30 inches. The take of northern pike with spear-fishing, archery or gigs at the reservoir will be prohibited next year.
BRANDING: CPW logo unveiled
The subtlety of nature may be the most prominent theme in the new Colorado Parks and Wildlife logo. Following last summer’s merger of Colorado State Parks and the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the new agency unveiled its updated logo last month, borrowing heavily from the previous DOW emblem with a few subtle changes.
Retaining its blue circular shape, a Rocky Mountain bighorn ram dominates a backdrop designed to represent Colorado landmarks with snowcapped mountains, red rocks, flowing water and blue skies. There are only three words: Colorado, Parks, Wildlife.
“I think this really represents our state and what we do,” division director Rick Cables said.
The new logo will be introduced slowly, starting with a few baseball caps for department heads like Cables, letterheads and eventually truck decals and patches for employees as the budget allows.
