The Big Sky Conference admitted that officials blew a key call Saturday in the final seconds of Portland State’s 23-17 victory over the University of Northern Colorado football team.
The conference said late Tuesday it might have cost the Bears a win Saturday at Nottingham Field in their regular-season finale.
According to the Greeley Tribune, the conference said UNC wide receiver Dominic Gunn was erroneously penalized for an illegal block with just more than three seconds remaining in the game. That nullified a 25-yard touchdown reception by UNC receiver Patrick Walker that would have tied the score.
Big Sky commissioner Doug Fullerton said in a statement that a film review determined Gunn was blocked into a Portland State player and should not have been called for an illegal block.
