DENVER—The Colorado Supreme Court says it will hear an appeal from Republicans challenging a judge’s ruling siding with Democrats on proposed congressional lines.
The court said Thursday it would hear arguments Dec. 1. A Denver District judge last week chose a Democratic-sponsored map that gives the party a chance to unseat two GOP incumbents, including U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman.
Coffman’s seat in the southern Denver suburbs has been held by Republicans for decades. The proposed map puts all of Aurora in Coffman’s district and Republican-leaning portions of his seat into the eastern plains district held by Republican Rep. Cory Gardner.
The rural 3rd District held by Republican Rep. Scott Tipton would become slightly more competitive than it already is.
Republicans argue the proposed map makes drastic changes in favor of competitiveness.
