DENVER—A member of the Metro Denver Sports Commission board has resigned following a grand jury probe into a sports-betting ring.

Steve Sander was named in an indictment as placing wagers in a bookmaking operation. He has not been charged with any crimes.

Sander tells the Denver Post ( ) he resigned to save the organization any embarrassment.

Daniel Dinner and Michael Elick pleaded not guilty last week to charges including violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act.

The nonprofit commission works to draw major sporting events to the Denver market.
