Two new board members for Denver Public Schools will be sworn in tonight during a special late-night meeting.
Board members Theresa Peña and Bruce Hoyt have reached their term limits.
Incumbent Arturo Jimenez, who kept his northwest Denver seat in district 5 by a margin of 142 votes according to Wednesday’s certified final tally — also will be sworn in for a second term.
Peña, who served two terms as one of the at-large board members, will be stepping down, and Allegra “Happy” Haynes who was elected by almost 60 percent of Denver voters this month will take the seat.
Haynes, a former city council woman was previously working in DPS as director of community outreach, before launching her campaign.
Hoyt, who has been representing district 1 in southeast Denver, served two terms. Anne Rowe will be sworn in for the seat.
Rowe, a DPS parent and small business owner, has previously volunteered with DPS and has served as executive board member for the nonprofit A-Plus Denver.
Rowe won the election taking more than 65 percent of the votes in southeast Denver.
The new board will elect new board officer positions tonight as well.
Peña already has plans to continue work in education after she steps down from the Denver school board. She will move on to lead mayor Michael Hancock’s Denver Education Compact as the executive director.
