Blevins Middle School in Fort Collins was evacuated today after a reported strange odor caused 15 students to feel sick.
The school called 911 to report the odor coming from a restroom and the ill students. The Poudre Fire Authority responded with a mass casualty response team and a hazardous materials team.
When crews arrived, school staff was already in the process of evacuating the 500 students and 50 staff members in the school.
Students were immediately treated and transported to the nearby hospital as a precaution.
Ultimately, the 15 students who were transported, were treated and released, according to a spokesman for the Poudre Valley Hospital. He also said students generally were feeling nauseous, but medical staff did not find a cause.
Fire authority crews searched the school, but also did not immediately find a cause for the odor. Crews were investigating at the school for more than five hours until about 6 p.m., and reported that they will return on Saturday to continue to search for the source for the odor.
The crews were able to ventilate the school building. District empolyees will remain on-site all night to monitor the situation.
A wrestling tournament scheduled for tonight at Blevins has been postponed.
