After a 10-hour standoff, a 21-year-old airman at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs surrendered at 8:30 p.m.

The airman’s name, rank nor hometown have not been released, but base officials have told media he was facing possible discharge related to matters in civilian court. He was still on active duty today.

The building was evacuated at about 10 a.m. after the airman, a member of the base’s security force, commandeered the facility where servicemen prepare for deployment, a Schriever Air Force Base spokeswoman said.

The base is home to the 50th Space Wing, which controls all U.S. military GPS satellites, though base officials said they were never in immediate danger of losing control of operations in a separate, heavily secured area.
