DENVER—The man picked to be Denver’s next police chief is getting support from city councilors.
Denver councilors voted unanimously on Monday to give preliminary approval to a contract for Louisville, Ky. Police chief Robert White. He would earn about $167,000 under the contract, including nearly $6,000 in longevity pay for his 39 years in law enforcement.
The council will take a final vote on the contract next week.
Mayor Michael Hancock picked White to serve as police chief but the council approval is required to approve chiefs hired from outside the police department.
White told The Denver Post ( ) that he understands that some officers are apprehensive about the change in leadership but also said he can’t wait to start his new job.
He’s expected to start the second week of December.
