Some newly elected Colorado mayors are joining other incoming mayors from across the country this week for a seminar on leadership at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics.
The three-day seminar runs Wed nesday through Friday at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
The costs for the seminar, including airfare, lodging and meals, are covered by the institute.
“This program has helped new mayors for more than three decades, and I believe it will provide me with some new tools to help the people of Thornton,” said Heidi Williams, elected mayor this month.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Arvada Mayor Marc Williams also will attend.
“This conference provides new city leaders an opportunity to gain important insights from scholars, policy experts and political practitioners on a myriad of management challenges and key issues they will face,” said Trey Grayson, director of Harvard’s Institute of Politics.
This 19th biennial seminar on transition and leadership for newly elected mayors is co-sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The sessions will be led by academics, practitioners and current and former mayors.
Topics at the seminar include the global economy, transitioning from the campaign to City Hall, finance and administration and jobs and economic development.
