Two men suspected of stealing $600 of Christmas toys from a car in Colorado Springs were arrested by police this morning.

The Grinch-like incident unfolded at about 12:45 a.m. when an officer spotted a vehicle heading north on Jetwing Drive at a “high rate of speed,” according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

The officer aired radio information on the speeding car to other officers in the area and moments later the vehicle was seen crashing into a backyard fence near the intersection of Jetwing and Astrozon Boulevard.

Two people bolted from the vehicle, but officers quickly chased one down.

Officers found toys at the crash site and determined that they were stolen from a vehicle in the 3800 block of Patrick Drive.

“Officers brought the toys back to a mother who was elated to have her family’s Christmas presents returned,” police said.

Police arrested Vincente Romero, 27, on suspicion of criminal trespass and possession of burglary tools.

At about 5:40 a.m. police arrested a second suspect, Jagmeet Singh, 21, on suspicion of criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools and multiple traffic offenses, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
