Two men have died of suspected heroin overdoses in Fort Collins in the past two days.

The names of the victims have not been released and the Larimer County Coroner’s Office has not yet determined an official cause, pending complete toxicology reports, but Fort Collins police are alarmed by the deaths.

“Police want citizens to know this drug (heroin) is dangerous and does have a presence in the community,” the police department said in a media release.

Police described the two cases as separate, unattended deaths.

On Tuesday a 25-year-old man called 911 from the 2900 block of Tumbleweed Lane after waking up to find two housemates unconscious, police said.

A 29-year-old man was found dead at the scene. and another 25-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with an apparent drug overdose, police said.

This morning police responded to the death of a 24-year-old man in the 100 block of Trilby Road after a 44-year-old man called 911 for help. “Paramedics were unable to revive the victim,” police said.

Four deaths this year in Larimer County have been caused by heroin, according to the coroner, and three potential cases are awaiting returns of full toxicology reports.

Paramedics in Larimer County are using a “life-saving drug”, Naloxone (Narcan), police said, in attempts to prevent deaths.
