Veronica Garcia walked out of a federal courtroom a free woman this morning after she was sentenced to time served for her role in trafficking thousands of kilos of cocaine into Colorado.
Garcia testified against her fellow gang members in four murder trials and helped convict Willie Clark for the murder of Denver Broncos player Darrent Williams last year.
She also testified against Clark, Brian Hicks and Shun Birch for the murder of state witness Kalonniann Clark.
All three defendants are serving more than life terms in state prison and were involved in one of the most notorious drug-trafficking street gangs in Colorado.
“Your positive behavior had an impact on my decision here today,” said U.S. District Judge Christine Arguello as she sentenced Garcia. “I think it was a very brave thing you did. It is very scary and now you see the type of people you were involved with. Best of luck to you and I hope I never see you in this courtroom again.”
Garcia served nearly 36 months in custody and was released about a year ago on supervision.
In that time she has not tested positive for drugs and has complied with all the conditions of her release.
