BEAVER CREEK — When Ryan Cochran-Siegle went to the Birds of Prey race course to inspect the track for today’s World Cup super-G, he didn’t know his mother was in town to watch him.
His mother, 1972 Olympic slalom gold medalist Barbara Ann Cochran, flew in Friday night without telling him. A coach told him she was here during inspection.
Ryan rewarded her by scoring his first World Cup points and finishing 29th — not bad for a 19-year-old in his third World Cup start.
“It brings tears to my eyes, I don’t know what to say,” said mom. “I thought he skied well. Sometimes it was hard to watch him, but I thought he skied well. I was really proud of him. It is a very tough course, very tough.”
“I’m glad she was able to experience it with me,” said Ryan, who is from Starksboro, Vt. “I thought it was good, solid.”
