COLORADO SPRINGS — The commander of the Fort Carson hospital is on the fast track.
Col. Jimmie O. Keenan has been nominated for promotion to major general — that’s right, two stars at once. She’ll take over as the chief of the Army Nurse Corps at its headquarters in Falls Church, Va., the Defense Department announced Friday.
Keenan, who has been at Fort Carson for about 2½ years, was commissioned into the Army in 1986 after earning her nursing degree from Henderson State University in Arkansas. She also holds a master’s degree in nursing administration from the Medical College of Georgia and a master’s of strategic studies from the Army War College, according to a biography from Fort Carson.
She has held a number of nursing positions at military units in the United States, Korea and Germany, and served with the 67th Combat Support Hospital (Forward) at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.
