BOULDER, Colo.—A volunteer fire department in the foothills west of Boulder has replaced a fire station and engine that were destroyed in the most expensive wildfire in Colorado’s recorded history.
The Four Mile Fire Protection District celebrated the rebuilt Salina Station and the new engine with a grand opening on Saturday.
The Boulder Daily Camera reports ( ) the station cost about $500,000 to rebuild. The Boulder County Community Foundation contributed nearly $100,000, and community fundraisers also helped.
Donations totaling $325,000 were used to buy the new all-wheel-drive engine.
A wildfire in September of 2010 destroyed 168 homes and caused $217 million in insurance losses. More than 3,500 people were forced to evacuate.
