GREELEY Two men were arrested this weekend and charged with attempted murder after the pair allegedly stole perfume and cologne from a Greeley department store and fired shots at employees as they were chased from the scene.

Marcos Mendez-Vega, 20, was arrested Saturday at a Greeley residence, although officers did not give an exact location of that arrest, and Dani Orantes-Martinez, 23, was picked up by authorities at a bar near Cheyenne, Wyo., early Sunday morning. Authorities listed Mendez-Vega as a Greeley resident, but no place of residence was given for Orantes-Martinez.

The charges stem from reports of shots being fired Friday evening at the Kohl’s department store located at 4224 Centerplace Drive. According to those reports, the two men shoplifted bottles of cologne and perfume at the store, and, as they attempted to leave without paying, loss-prevention officers with the store attempted to detain them.

Reports said the suspects ran from the store and were chased by the loss-prevention personnel. Once in the parking lot, one of the fleeing men turned and drew a handgun, firing two shots toward the employees. The suspects then ran south from the store to a vehicle and then fled the shopping center.
