Denver’s Independent Monitor, Richard Rosenthal, told the mayor’s office tonight that he has accepted a new job and will be drafting a resignation letter, according to Amber Miller, city spokeswoman.

Rosenthal could not be reached for comment, tonight but on Monday he declined to comment to questions about any new employment opportunities.

Rosenthal, who reviews investigations into alleged wrongdoing by police and sheriff’s deputies, came to Denver from Portland in 2005.

Since then, the city has put in place a new discipline system that replaced one that largely relied on past discipline decisions to guide punishment for misbehaving officers. The new system has resulted in 10 terminations since March.

Next week, the city’s new police chief Robert White is scheduled to start.
