FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is upgrading its electric power backup after a failure last year forced the department to move emergency calls.

Larimer County commissioners have agreed to increase the sheriff’s budget to improve reliability.

According to the Loveland Reporter-Herald ( ), the generator and backup battery were installed 11 years ago to serve the dispatch center during a power outage.

Officials say an automatic switch failed and the battery lasted only 43 minutes.
