FRISCO, Colo.—Summit County avalanche rescuers are trying to get new equipment that will help them find avalanche victims faster.

They want to equip the Flight for Life Colorado helicopter with a beacon.

The external beacon can search up to 200 yards, rather than the 30-yard range typical of handheld beacons used on the ground.

According to the Summit Daily News (), the massive slide from about two decades ago in Breckenridge took three days to recover the bodies using search lines, work that could be completed in less than a day with the new technology.
