Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Noel Cunningham, the late Denver restaurateur and humanitarian whose generosity left a mark on all who knew him.
Hundreds of people gathered at a Denver church Friday to pay their final respects to Cunningham, sharing grief and memories.
Sadly, Cunningham took his own life. If there is solace to be taken from this situation, it’s that Cunningham’s suicide may have encouraged others suffering emotional distress to seek help from the Metro Crisis Hotline. It received a record number of calls Wednesday after Cunningham’s family announced the manner of Cunningham’s death.
“The final powerful lesson that Noel taught us is that self-care matters too, even for the selfless,” former Gov. Bill Ritter said in delivering the eulogy at Cunningham’s funeral.
We couldn’t agree more.
Our pulses are racing. After the success of the inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge, it was hard to imagine what could be done to make it better. The release of next year’s course gives us the answer.
The Durango start takes the race to the southwest corner of the state. Several days feature challenging and beautiful mountain stages. Boulder, which has a rich cycling history and culture, gets the nod for a penultimate finish. We’re most excited for the time trial in Denver, and the prospect that the final day will be a competitive spectacle in front of tens of thousands of fans.
A first at Red Rocks. Red Rocks has long been one of Colorado’s favorite summertime concert destinations. Next month, it will become a wintertime venue. Promoters AEG announced Friday that the first-ever winter concert at Red Rocks will be held Jan. 27 in conjunction with the annual SIA Snow Show. Weather is always a consideration for summertime shows, and the prospect of snow and cold may not make things easy. Then again, it could well be sunny and 60 degrees on concert day. Either way, the idea of trying something new in a Colorado classic is intriguing.
