The Rapids on Monday selected Baggio Husidic in the first round of the Major League Soccer re-entry draft’s second stage — a type of waiver-wire draft. Colorado also picked Hunter Freeman in the second round.

Husidic was previously released by the Chicago Fire. Freeman last played with the Houston Dynamo.

The Rapids have seven days to make a contract offer to the two players or they will become free agents.

Former Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul wasn’t taken in the draft, so he’s available to sign with any MLS team.

Mountain West salutes Cowboy.

Wyoming senior center Adam Waddell is the Mountain West men’s basketball player of the week.

The conference honor is the first of Waddell’s career and the first for a Cowboys player since Feb. 23, 2009.

Waddell helped the Cowboys beat Colorado 65-54 in Boulder by scoring a season-high 17 points, all in the second half. He also grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot while committing no turnovers in a season-high 31 minutes of playing time.

Waddell is averaging 10.8 points and shooting .660 from the field. The victory over CU was Wyoming’s first on an opponent’s home court since Feb. 28, 2009, and ended CU’s 27-game nonconference win streak at the Coors Events Center.

Wyoming, which is off to a 9-1 start, plays UC Irvine today at 7 p.m. in Laramie.
