A woman died this morning when a van crashed into the rear of her car, ramming it into the back of a semi-truck trailer that was stopped for a light.

The crash happened about 10:30 a.m. in the right lane of westbound I-76 just east of Dahlia Street, according to a Colorado State Patrol media release.

The state patrol said a 1999 Kenworth semi-tractor was stopped for a red light and a 1995 Honda Accord was directly behind the truck.

A 1992 Ford E-250 van failed to stop and slammed in to the rear of the Honda. The driver of the Honda, an unidentified woman, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, the state patrol said.

A passenger in the Honda was taken to the medical center with serious injuries. The driver of the Ford van suffered moderate injuries, the state patrol said, and the driver of the truck was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
