Contrary to its name, Garage A Trois plays nothing remotely close to the styles of today’s garage rock’s resurgence. No, the experimental jazz quartet evades proper classification, particularly because keys wizard Marco Benevento joined the group in 2009. Led by innovative New Orleans-bred drummer Stanton Moore (of Galactic), G.A.T. plays a blend of acid, freak-out jazz that often varies from night to night. Catch them at the Fox Theatre ($15, foxtheatre ) in Boulder tonight and Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom ($18, cervantes ) Saturday.

Jewish rapper Matisyahu made music headlines earlier this week after shaving his lengthy beard and tweeting the phrase “No more Chassidic reggae superstar.” Ever since his 2005 breakout “Live At Stubb’s,” Matisyahu has been the rare religious-minded artist with mainstream crossover appeal. Now, while not wholly abandoning Judaism, Matis says 2012 will offer “music of rebirth.” See the now-baby-faced rapper at the Ogden Theatre on Saturday. Tickets, $26.50-$30 are available through .
