Xcel Energy’s average residential electric bill would be dropped by $4.34 a month and the gas bill by $3.81 a month under a proposed adjustment for lower fuel prices in a rate request filed Thursday by the utility.
Each quarter Xcel files for an adjustment on fuel costs with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission — the full cost of fuel is passed on to consumers.
The filing is not related to a pending $142 million rate increase Xcel is seeking.
Under the proposal, the average 632 kilowatt-hour resident bill would drop to $62.66 and the average 115 therm gas bill would be $81.18. The average small-business electric bill would fall 7.6 percent to $102.10 and the gas bill would drop 2 percent to $350.46.
