Peruvian President Ollanta Humala called off a state of emergency in the northern Andes after local leaders suspended their protests against Newmont Mining Corp.’s $4.8 billion gold project and agreed to talks.

Order has been restored in the four provinces of the Cajamarca region, where a 60- day state of emergency was announced Dec. 4, the Cabinet chief’s office said Friday in a statement. Newmont suspended work at its Minas Conga mine Nov. 30.
