Responding to a tip, Denver’s Parks and Recreation Division sent a crew to Cheesman Park on Saturday to search for rat poison, possibly left to harm dogs.

Sunday evening, a Parks and Recreation spokeswoman confirmed to 9News that poison was found in a container in the northwest corner of the park, near 13th Avenue and Franklin Street.

Angela Casias said it was unclear if an animal had ingested the poison. A ranger was in the park Saturday warning dog owners to be on the lookout. Another crew will be sent back to the park today to investigate further.

A 9News viewer e-mailed the Information Center after hearing rumors that rat poison had been found in Cheesman Park.
