Tom Brady and the Patriots were playing at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, where Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is supposed to own the fourth quarter, but Brady was the owner of everything in New England’s 41-23 victory.
“I had a good fourth quarter, but our whole team did,” Brady said when asked if he had stollen Tebow’s thunder. “Our team did a good job executing. I thought our guys really handled the situation well in the fourth quarter.”
The problem the Broncos had with Brady wasn’t just in the fourth quarter, even though he was 5-for-5 passing for 94 yards at a time when Tebow usually is stealing the show.
Brady put on a show the whole game, finishing with 23 completions on 34 attempts for 320 yards and two touchdowns. He had long throws of 46 yards to tight end Aaron Hernandez and 38 yards to tight end Rob Gronkowski.
“We played well for 60 minutes out there today,” Brady said. “Anytime you win by 18 points on the road, it’s a good day. We knew it would be a 60-minute game. I thought we played well for 60 minutes for the first time this season.”
Brady was excited about his rushing touchdown of a yard in the second quarter that put the Patriots up 24-16.
“I don’t get in the end zone very often,” Brady said. “Maybe once or twice a season. So when I do, I get pretty excited. It’s usually once a year for me.”
Coach Bill Belichick said Brady did his job.
“The quarterback’s job is to help his team win, and he did that,” Belichick said. “Everybody stepped up. We had plays from our backs, our tight ends, from our receivers, our quarterback, all the way across the board, we got some plays.”
Brady didn’t make much of the fourth-quarter thing in Denver, but defensive tackle Vince Wilfork did.
“We were anxious to get to the fourth quarter,” Wilfork said. “We wanted to show them we’re a pretty good fourth-quarter team too.”
