Having been selected to 10 Pro Bowls in his storied career, Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey knows what it takes for a trip to Oahu.
Asked if any “under-the-radar” Broncos deserved consideration, Bailey said: “(Ryan) Clady, (Chris) Kuper, Von (Miller) , Elvis (Dumervil), there’s a bunch of guys,” Bailey said.
But with fan voting for the NFL’s all-star totaled, the team’s most on-the-radar guy has a chance to make the AFC team when the lineups are announced Tuesday. Players and coaches are voting this week.
Quarterback Tim Tebow finished the fan voting in third among AFC quarterbacks with 632,912 votes, well behind New England quarterback Tom Brady’s 1,454,311 votes. Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger finished second in the fan voting.
“I think (Tebow) deserves it,” Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said. “He’s done a nice job since he stepped in. But when a quarterback gets an honor like that, you also have to look at the players around him. The 10 other players on the field every down with him, they deserve a lot of credit for his success.”
Typically three QBs are selected from each conference.
Willis McGahee was fifth in the fan voting for AFC running backs, Dumervil was third among AFC defensive ends, Miller was second among AFC outside linebackers, Bailey was fourth among AFC cornerbacks, Brian Dawkins was third among AFC strong safeties and Britton Colquitt was second among AFC punters.
