Colorado Rapids midfielder Jeff Larentowicz is taking a big step up.

The Rapids’ 2001 team MVP has been named to U.S. National Team’s 20-man roster by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann for the team’s upcoming training camp and friendlies.

The United States first hosts Venezuela on Jan. 21 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., and four days later faces Panama at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City.

Larentowicz reports to Phoenix to join fellow U.S. players and staff on Jan. 3 to begin training.

Larentowicz was last called up to the U.S. National Team for the friendlies against Honduras and Ecuador on Oct. 8 and 11. He was an unused substitute in the first match but was not on the game-day roster for the second match.
